Moonflower

Here is our amazing moonflower plant.

It has a flower on about every other day and the flowers bloom at night and last about half of the next day.

About 7 inches long and 5 inches across... they have a strong scent that is a lot like the rose.

Curly and The Half Blood Prince...

So, we made it to the big time... sort of...

We bought our tickets last month... the day they went on sale.

We then thought of who to dress up as... two years ago Carly dressed as Tonks so the obvious character for me was Lupin. I had a giant fro going already so I just put off shaving for a few days and voila... There was a little makeup involved too.

Then was the Harry Potter Potter on campus at BYU... the zoobies were out in their Potter paraphernalia. The article above mentions it... As you can see, Carly and I made the Daily Herald with our dashing costumes.

We arrived at the theater two hours early and barely got reasonable seats together. All 15, yes, fifteen theaters were sold out for the midnight, and 3 am shows!

The movie was good. Very good. I personally like it the most out of the other movies so far. It was artistically approached and there were some very nice moments. The teenie bopper love was like an inocent backdrop to the stark, and dark, subject matter. (unlike the fourth movie that dwelt on this at the cost of else) The role of Horace was spectacularly cast and supperbly acted. Snape was a bit minimized. The end was rushed, a bit forced, and a slight blight to the overall movie. There was a lot cut out and the cut/altered material could be argued pro or con. I personally thought it was great--and of course, not as good as the book :). Carly will have to give you here personal review.

After the show we had a nice drive home and a good sleep--filled with dreams of witches, wizards, and wands.

Curtis + Carly = Curly

While you might think we're echoing such famous name combinations as Brangelina or Tomcat, "Curly" actually has a more down-home origin: Grandma Shumway just can't seem to tell us apart, so she tells us together. But our coming together has been a process; here's a brief timeline of our history:

Fall 2006: Carly comes to BYU for her Freshman year. Curtis is living in the building next door as a Resident Assistant (R.A.) to Carly's male freshman cohorts.

Ward Talent Show Fall '06. We both performed and Curtis was rather smitten by Carly's ornate dedication... to a loaf of Wonderbread (pictured on the piano).

Winter 2007: It snowed and was very cold for many months. Curtis built a wall of snow, Carly played in the snow. It was a good time for all. We still hadn't had a conversation at this point.

An important note--Curtis was kinda... well, yeah, stalking Carly from about before Christmas (around Octoberish) onward. Keep that in mind because it becomes important later on (see July 12th 2008)
Spring 2007: We had conversations, and through much good fortune (contact us for the full story) we knew one another well enough for Curtis to ask Carly on a date after the school year had ended. It was a glorious spring.

Prom, south campus spring 2007... ahhhh young love.

Summer 2007: Carly goes home to Texas for the summer. Curtis stays in Provo and practices guitar and both take advantages of free nights and weekends on their cell phone plans.

...and Curtis flies down to Texas for a visit... here we are at breakfast, at IKEA.

Carly comes back from Texas and Curtis and Carly are now dating, it's fall 2007...

Carly meets the family at Thanksgiving in Minersville at Gramps and Granny's

Curtis meets Tom and Darla when they come to BYU in November... it was fun for all! (particularly Tom--ice cream and a massage...)

We continue dating through Winter semester 2008, and we we are engaged on January 12th 2008. For the complete story contact Curly.

Our engagement picture...

Our rings: Carly's is Art Nouveau and Curtis's is from the same time period (1880's-1920's). The rings are a combined age of around 200 yrs old.

Spring 2008: Carly heads off to London study abroad--a lifelong dream fulfilled. Curtis stays in Provo, practicing guitar 5+ hours a day... a lifelong dream for him.

At the guitar...

Out on the countryside...

Summer 2008 revolved around the big date... July 12th... We worked on the apartment...

finalized our plans (tons of flying driving, logistics etc.) and finally we were married in the San Diego Temple for ever and ever... and ever.

Did we mention that it was a double wedding? Mike Lindsay and Allison Smith (Lindsay) were married the day before and we had a joint three family reception! It was a lot of planning and even more fun!
